Strayer Juggled Book, Blogging and Service

Before she enrolled at Owen, Susan Strayer had already established a successful business focused on human resources, recruiting strategy and career coaching. She had been quoted as an authority by the Baltimore Sun and Washington Post. She had authored one book and was in the process of completing another, The Right Job, Right Now (published in 2007 by St. Martin's Press).

Even with her impressive accomplishments, Susan pursued an opportunity to deepen her skills and broaden her reach through an MBA at Vanderbilt. While focusing on human and organizational performance and strategy, she also managed to immerse herself in the Owen community.

She became a founding member of OwenBloggers.com, whose online postings offer valuable insights into the school to prospective students and recruiters alike. She served as Vice President of the Human & Organizational Performance Association and Marketing Director for Owen Orientation 2008, and she also started the Owen Corporate Ambassadors Program. For her outstanding effort and energy in leadership, Susan was one of seven students presented with the Owen Service Award in 2007.
Since 1969, Vanderbilt Business has been building a new kind of business leader. The kind who aren't afraid to challenge old ways of thinking. Who don't think they've heard it all before (or pretend they will ever know it all). The persistent kind. People who are ready to work harder and dig deeper, and who put ideas over ego and performance over pedigree.

We attract the kind who are looking not only to succeed in the business world but to shape it for the better. While also shaping their skills, their careers and their futures. All while shaping our own community in ways that make a lasting difference for themselves and others.

You'll find stories here of Vanderbilt Businesspeople, people much like you, who have done all these and more.

We invite you to become a World Shaper yourself. Or to recruit one. And, most of all, to read how Vanderbilt Business has become such a richly shaping experience for so many. Close
