Former Ferrari Marketer Makes Owen His Engine

Sergio Corbo, a dual citizen of the United States and Italy, is also something of a citizen of the world. He has worked as an engineer for Ferrari Formula One Racing, where he was responsible for the wind tunnel. Then, realizing his real passion was sales, he moved into business development, first at Magnetek, then at Schneider Electric and, more recently, GE’s Energy Industrial Solutions unit.

“In my career I grew functionally within sales and marketing,” he says. “As I moved into GM positions I realized I needed to fill a gap in my knowledge to become a complete, global leader.”

He chose Vanderbilt, he explains, “mainly because of the caliber of the faculty and their engagement in the business world: hands-on thinking that delivers applicable knowledge to the student. Vanderbilt is a small school that delivers a very high-quality global experience.”

Sergio particularly credits strategy and finance classes, along with marketing, with helping him “shape my business to deliver a superior experience to the customer.” The return on his investment: Since completing his MBA, he was promoted three times in four years — reaching the C-suite of a business unit with more than $3.5 billion in annual revenue — and recovered the cost of his education within 12 months.
Since 1969, Vanderbilt Business has been building a new kind of business leader. The kind who aren't afraid to challenge old ways of thinking. Who don't think they've heard it all before (or pretend they will ever know it all). The persistent kind. People who are ready to work harder and dig deeper, and who put ideas over ego and performance over pedigree.

We attract the kind who are looking not only to succeed in the business world but to shape it for the better. While also shaping their skills, their careers and their futures. All while shaping our own community in ways that make a lasting difference for themselves and others.

You'll find stories here of Vanderbilt Businesspeople, people much like you, who have done all these and more.

We invite you to become a World Shaper yourself. Or to recruit one. And, most of all, to read how Vanderbilt Business has become such a richly shaping experience for so many. Close
