Vanderbilt MBA 2010
Director of Training and BPM Services at Centex Systems Support Services
Rita Chang was born and raised in Taiwan until she was 12 years old, when her family moved to Houston, Texas. Through extensive travels with her family—including trips from back to her native Taiwan—Rita fell in love with photography. "It allows me to see and experience ordinary events in a new way," she explains.
In a way, that's also how Rita viewed the health care MBA specialization at Owen. She'd spent almost six years in the field, most recently as the IT manager for a physician-owned hospital in Austin. An MBA would help her view the health care field in a new way and "help me move to the next level in my career."
She found the structure of the Vanderbilt Health Care MBA appealing. "You are required to have a concentration in addition to the health care specialization, which I liked." She also appreciated the fact that Owen is a graduate-only program, allowing the administration and faculty to focus their efforts on graduate student success.
Rita says she especially benefited from the Career Management Center's Health Care Advocate program, which provides access to health care alumni to gain insights regarding their career experiences.
"Owen provided a safe forum for me to learn from other experiences and further shape my 'brand,' which is invaluable," Rita says.
