Finding His Place

Marine Scout Located Mission—Favorable Terrain at Owen

Michael Strupe knows how to assess new terrain quickly. That was part of his job when he served in the United States Marine Corps as an operator in a Force Reconnaissance Platoon.

"I used to do all the fun stuff: jumping out of airplanes, dive missions," Michael says. When his military service ended, he realized he needed additional skills, especially in finance, to attain his goal of a career in investment banking.

Michael chose Owen because of its top finance program, but he discovered much more. "Everyone at Owen really wants to be here. I remember my first day of class, when Professor Tim Vogus asked a question, and everyone in the room raised a hand to answer. There's a contagious atmosphere of learning here.

"Coming to Owen was definitely the right choice for me," Michael says. "The faculty and staff go out of their way to make sure you are achieving your goals, helping me bridge the gap from Special Forces to the world of finance."
Since 1969, Vanderbilt Business has been building a new kind of business leader. The kind who aren't afraid to challenge old ways of thinking. Who don't think they've heard it all before (or pretend they will ever know it all). The persistent kind. People who are ready to work harder and dig deeper, and who put ideas over ego and performance over pedigree.

We attract the kind who are looking not only to succeed in the business world but to shape it for the better. While also shaping their skills, their careers and their futures. All while shaping our own community in ways that make a lasting difference for themselves and others.

You'll find stories here of Vanderbilt Businesspeople, people much like you, who have done all these and more.

We invite you to become a World Shaper yourself. Or to recruit one. And, most of all, to read how Vanderbilt Business has become such a richly shaping experience for so many. Close
