For Kingson, Studying with Friends Made Big Difference

When Justin Kingson began seeking advice on how to transition into a career in private wealth management, "they all told me I had the qualitative skills," he recalls, "but that an MBA would round out my quantitative skill set."

He chose Owen for its strong academic reputation, especially in finance. Almost as much, two non-quantitative reasons weighed heavily on his decision: the school's "well-rounded students" and the "genuine warmth" he encountered among people at the school and in Nashville. "If I was going to spend two years somewhere," he reasoned, "I wanted to enjoy the people as well as the academics. When I talk with MBAs from other schools, they can't believe my classmates all get along so well."

The skills he gained during his first year helped Justin land an internship back in New York with Credit Suisse Private Bank, where he was attracted to a side of the business that draws on some of his own experience: helping professional athletes manage their wealth.
Since 1969, Vanderbilt Business has been building a new kind of business leader. The kind who aren't afraid to challenge old ways of thinking. Who don't think they've heard it all before (or pretend they will ever know it all). The persistent kind. People who are ready to work harder and dig deeper, and who put ideas over ego and performance over pedigree.

We attract the kind who are looking not only to succeed in the business world but to shape it for the better. While also shaping their skills, their careers and their futures. All while shaping our own community in ways that make a lasting difference for themselves and others.

You'll find stories here of Vanderbilt Businesspeople, people much like you, who have done all these and more.

We invite you to become a World Shaper yourself. Or to recruit one. And, most of all, to read how Vanderbilt Business has become such a richly shaping experience for so many.
