International Corporate Controller, Gibson Guitar

Energizing Her Career

Calvo Gained Skills for World-Class Business

You can't get much more global than Ingrid Calvo's position. She serves as international controller for the world's most renowned guitar manufacturer. To meet the challenges of such a fast-paced environment, she says, "today's business leaders need a degree that transcends textbooks and the classroom to provide real-life business application."

That's what she found at Vanderbilt. The Executive MBA program not only equipped her with "cutting-edge business knowledge and skills," she says. "It transformed the classroom into a place to learn from peers and faculty." Owen's distinctive group learning approach enabled her to benefit from the experience and perspectives of a diverse array of peers. And balancing the challenging course work with her job responsibilities improved her time management abilities.

Now, Ingrid says, she has the knowledge and tools to get involved in high-level projects that impact her company's overall business. "It was the ideal program and perfect fit for me."
Since 1969, Vanderbilt Business has been building a new kind of business leader. The kind who aren't afraid to challenge old ways of thinking. Who don't think they've heard it all before (or pretend they will ever know it all). The persistent kind. People who are ready to work harder and dig deeper, and who put ideas over ego and performance over pedigree.

We attract the kind who are looking not only to succeed in the business world but to shape it for the better. While also shaping their skills, their careers and their futures. All while shaping our own community in ways that make a lasting difference for themselves and others.

You'll find stories here of Vanderbilt Businesspeople, people much like you, who have done all these and more.

We invite you to become a World Shaper yourself. Or to recruit one. And, most of all, to read how Vanderbilt Business has become such a richly shaping experience for so many.
