Supportive Community Helped King Launch New Career

Greg King had established a career in business development for NBC Enterprises in Los Angeles, then as an entrepreneur helping such clients as Fox Entertainment and Warner Brothers develop marketing strategies aimed at ethnic groups.

But he wanted to grow professionally, and he knew that there was much more to learn by enrolling in a competitive full-time MBA program. "I wanted to attend a top MBA program that had a strong reputation for producing leaders," he says. Vanderbilt stood out.

Greg, who hadn't taken quantitative courses as an undergraduate, reckoned himself "a non-traditional MBA" student. "After arriving on campus, the career management staff, my professors and the administration illustrated their interest in my succeeding," he says. "When my load got tough the first couple quarters, the entire team offered support, encouragement and resources–proving I was not just a number–but more a member of the family."

Greg earned an internship as a brand manager for L'Oreal in New York. He also designed curriculum for himself emphasizing global business. "Owen," he says, "has helped me understand how to succeed in the global market."
Since 1969, Vanderbilt Business has been building a new kind of business leader. The kind who aren't afraid to challenge old ways of thinking. Who don't think they've heard it all before (or pretend they will ever know it all). The persistent kind. People who are ready to work harder and dig deeper, and who put ideas over ego and performance over pedigree.

We attract the kind who are looking not only to succeed in the business world but to shape it for the better. While also shaping their skills, their careers and their futures. All while shaping our own community in ways that make a lasting difference for themselves and others.

You'll find stories here of Vanderbilt Businesspeople, people much like you, who have done all these and more.

We invite you to become a World Shaper yourself. Or to recruit one. And, most of all, to read how Vanderbilt Business has become such a richly shaping experience for so many. Close
