Accelerating into Business

Bouldin Takes Off on College Road Trip

By the time he was 21, Andrew Bouldin had started and sold his first company—a successful lawn care/landscaping business. Through that experience, he says, "I was hooked on the ability to make five times as much as my friends while setting my own schedule."

After his sophomore year at the University of Tennessee, Andrew completed the Accelerator program at Owen, where he was one of 20 students selected to design a $5 million marketing plan to help Dodge improve its brand image among college students. During the remainder of his time in college, he and a student team helped implement that plan, reaching their audience through online promotions they developed from scratch.

For a business launcher such as Andrew, an Eagle Scout and scratch golfer, an MBA at Owen was the logical step after graduation. "To be a major asset to a startup," he says, "I wanted to build on the skills I had learned and become more confident in my own entrepreneurial abilities."

His internship was a natural choice, too. Andrew is working for his own company, MyCollegeRoadTrip.com—a travel planning site aimed at college students. Andrew launched the site in the fall of 2008. Business is booming.
Since 1969, Vanderbilt Business has been building a new kind of business leader. The kind who aren't afraid to challenge old ways of thinking. Who don't think they've heard it all before (or pretend they will ever know it all). The persistent kind. People who are ready to work harder and dig deeper, and who put ideas over ego and performance over pedigree.

We attract the kind who are looking not only to succeed in the business world but to shape it for the better. While also shaping their skills, their careers and their futures. All while shaping our own community in ways that make a lasting difference for themselves and others.

You'll find stories here of Vanderbilt Businesspeople, people much like you, who have done all these and more.

We invite you to become a World Shaper yourself. Or to recruit one. And, most of all, to read how Vanderbilt Business has become such a richly shaping experience for so many. Close
